    I’m really bummed you weren’t able to test multi-link operation (and it didn’t even get a mention) aka MLO. Being able to aggregate 5ghz, 6ghz, and 2.4ghz is the big advantage of WiFi 7, and I believe the firmware was out when this was posted. I could be wrong here, but, effectively I believe you only tested the WiFi 6E capabilities? Unless you were on UniFi Network Application 8.2.93 or greater, which wasn’t mentioned, this was a big oversight to me. I’m having trouble finding content covering Ubiquiti’s MLO capabilities, which is the only thing that would possibly convince me to upgrade from the U6-Enterprise (especially given the 2x2 instead of 4x4 MIMO on 5 and 6ghz)

    Did Ubiquiti change the specs on the UniFi Express to handle more than 4 additional UniFi devices (12:29 in video). The UniFi Store still shows it only supporting 4 + itself. The UniFi Cloud Gateway Ultra support 30+ UniFi network devices. Just want to make sure nobody buys a UniFi Express thinking it can handle a bunch of UniFi devices

    I got the Unifi Express to have Wifi 6 and an updated gateway from my USG. I have too many unifi devices for it though "according to ubiquiti" so I though well thats ok since I have my own locally hosted controller... nope it would not work in gateway mode with a seperate controller, only would work as an AP. However I backup my controller then restored it to the express controller and all of my devices connected and can be managed. I cant add anymore and I am one over the limit....

    GREAT VIDEO!!!! I know when I first started I just jump into buying UDM-Pro and bought 1 wifi device, and 1 camera. I then followed your videos on how to setup the device. Had to wait about 1 month before I started building my network because of the cost. Wish I would of started like you mention in the video but glad I just jumped in the ocean.. since then I have updated my network to more devices. Keep up the great work, and look forward on more videos.

    Since there's power available in the mine shaft, a pair of fiber-ethernet converter or several fibric daisy chained switches with SFP(+) would solve the problem. Just add power sockets to the power line of the pump at each level that needs internet access.

    What a great video. Thank you for all the information and the step-by-step instructions. So if I did, this, and I used my travel router in, for example, Mexico, would my Internet traffic from Mexico appear as if I’m actually back home in the US? Also, do I have to use the GLI net brand of router at home, or can I use my existing Netgear for the VPN server part?

    The mine needs glass fiber and decent power, period. Perhaps in town I would use fiber to interconnect the different houses. Not sure how Brent feels about cables, but if you want a stable and fast network, use cables!! But yeah, a lot more work, and probably a lot more expensive.

  • @mar4kl
    @mar4kl 2 дні тому

    I live in Chicago, where a lot of brick homes have been expanded, often leaving masonry that used to be the exterior walls hidden inside interior walls. These create rooms, and sometimes whole sections of the house, that are wi-fi dead spots. The best way to fully cover such houses is to have my low-voltage subcontractor pull Ethernet cables from wherever the Internet service comes in (which is usually also where any other network equipment is) to the additions on the wrong side of the hidden masonry and install access points there. In such cases, it can take 3 or more access points for full coverage. Unfortunately, this can get quite expensive, which is why whenever I pass by one of these build-outs in progress, I'll try to find out who the owner is and plant a bug in his ear about having Ethernet cable run during the construction, when it's much cheaper to do so. It's amazing to me that even after years of proliferation of home networking, it's still an afterthought to architects, interior designers and contractors. For the budget-constrained, I will try a TP-Link Deco PX50 kit, which can connect an access point on the wrong side of the hidden masonry using powerline networking. I've had good results with that, but it may not work if the electrical wiring isn't up to snuff, if the electrical system is divided across multiple breaker panels or if the house has multiple electrical feeds from the utility pole. A UniFi solution is always preferable if the client is willing to pay for it.

    Great video! I just subscribed. Question for you. We are early in the build building a 2 story stretched out 6000 sq ft house. I want to use the ceiling mounted APs. My question is whether they radiate up or only down (or if power radiating up is significantly less). I’ve assumed they radiate mainly down, so I’m thinking of 3 on the top floor and two on the lower floor. If they are omnidirectional then I probably don’t need three on the top floor. Thanks!

    the 2.5g port on my UDM-SE died recently, managed to get it RMA'd but even on a replacement it's very unreliable when there's high bandwidth utilisation, it'll literally just drop out at times. I've had to opt for an SFP RJ45 Transceiver just to mitigate this issue. If I recall correctly the ethernet controller used is a Realtek 8125 which is notorious for being unreliable. Hope it's different in this model.

    I got annoyed about the ISP "quality" router that wasnt able to handle all the clients (ca 20 that is not massive considering IoT and a family where everyone has phone and comp) so 1st thing I tried was EOL enterprise firewall that makes my home network now. Then I got annoyed about the wifi coverage and got 2 U6+ APs to mesh the house and yard around it. At first planned to use them as a standalone but then found that its possible to add unify controller to my NAS via docker. Next steps are at some point to retire the FW and get the unify gateway and preferably switch to separate IoT network from general network.
